The "Royal Widebody": Redefining the 2022 McLaren 720S Spider
Is it sacrilege to cut into one of the most sophisticated chassis ever to leave Woking, England? Maybe to some. But here at Shift Culture, we believe stock is just a starting point.
The 2022 McLaren 720S Spider is already alien technology. It’s fast, it’s loud, and it turns heads. But we didn’t want to just turn heads - we wanted to break necks. The "Royal Widebody" project is our answer to the purists: a build that balances the aggressive "show" of a stance car with the legitimate "go" of a track weapon.
The Philosophy: Width, Presence, and Power
Taking one of the fastest production cars on earth and making it wider, lower, and louder requires a specific mindset. This isn't just about bolting on parts; it's about curating an identity.
Most builders will slam a supercar on air suspension and call it a day. That creates a parker, not a driver. We ensured the bite matched the bark. By pairing the visual drama of the Liberty Walk silhouette with serious under-the-hood performance upgrades, we’ve created something that feels right at home at a "Street Dreams" block party in Fort Pierce or ripping down the I-95.
The Aesthetic: A Spaceship for the Street
The 720S design is distinct, but the Liberty Walk Fiber Glass Widebody Kit transforms it into something extraterrestrial. It creates a stance that looks impossible—until you see it moving.
To fill those massive new arches, we couldn't go off-the-shelf. We fitted the build with Rohana RFG-29 Carbon Fiber 3-piece wheels. These aren't just rolling stock; they are jewelry. The custom purple hardware on the wheels ties directly into the MSO Custom Purple interior, creating a cohesive, high-fashion aesthetic that screams "exclusive."
Performance: More Than Just a Pretty Face
We know the stigma: "It's on air, so it can't perform." We took that personally.
This Spider runs a fully custom air suspension setup designed to handle the torque, not just park hard. But the real magic is in the engine bay. We upgraded to Mamba Turbos paired with high-flow downpipes and a custom tune. This ensures that when you drop the hammer, the car disappears toward the horizon just as fast as it looks like it should.
